Frequently asked questions

Straight answers on pricing, cleaning, VRF systems and warranty. Still unsure? Call and ask.

How much does air conditioner installation cost in Batumi?

Imia works to fixed prices in Batumi:

  • standard wall-mounted split installation — from 140 GEL
  • pre-installation pipe & drainage preparation — from 80 GEL
  • VRF/VRV systems — from 650 GEL

The final price depends on wall type, pipe length and height. You always get a clear, fixed quote before any work begins — no surprises on the bill.

How much does it cost to install an air conditioner by capacity (BTU)?

Standard wall-mounted installation is priced by the capacity of the unit:

  • 7,000 BTU — up to 20 m² — from 140 GEL
  • 9,000 BTU — 25–30 m² — from 160 GEL
  • 12,000 BTU — 35–40 m² — from 200 GEL
  • 18,000 BTU — 50–60 m² — from 220 GEL
  • 24,000 BTU — 70–80 m² — from 250 GEL

Anything above 24,000 BTU, or a non-standard job — a long pipe run, a high floor, concealed pipework or difficult access — is quoted on site. The prices cover our work only; you buy the unit itself.

How much does it cost to replace an old air conditioner with a new one?

Replacing a unit is a fixed price by room size: 80 GEL for a 20–40 m² room and 100 GEL for a 60–80 m² room. That covers removing the old unit, installing the new one, testing it and starting the system.

How much does a deep clean cost?

A deep clean of a wall-mounted unit is 130 GEL for a 20–40 m² room and 150 GEL for a 60–80 m² room. It covers the filters, a deep clean of the blower drum, the heat exchanger, the drain pan and the drainage system, plus antibacterial treatment. Cassette, ceiling-floor, column and ducted units on business premises are from 250 GEL.

How much does diagnostics and repair cost?

On-site fault finding is from 60 GEL and a water-leak check (an air conditioner dripping water) is from 50 GEL. The exact figure depends on the type of unit, the location and how complex the fault is. You get a written diagnosis and a fixed repair quote before any repair work starts. Refrigerant top-up is 15 GEL per 100 g, and the cost depends on the refrigerant type (R22 / R410A / R32) and the amount needed.

How much does installation cost for a business or commercial premises?

For offices, hotels, cafés and restaurants, shops, gyms, warehouses and production sites: split and multi-split systems from 350 GEL, cassette, ceiling-floor (console), column and ducted systems from 450 GEL, and VRF/VRV systems from 650 GEL. The final price depends on the number of indoor units and the pipe network, so it is always confirmed on site.

How often should an air conditioner be cleaned?

Imia recommends a deep clean and service once a year, ideally before the summer season. Batumi's humid coastal climate encourages mould and odours inside the unit, so an annual clean keeps airflow healthy, lowers power use and extends the unit's life. Cassette units and heavily used systems may need cleaning twice a year.

Can you find and fix a freon (refrigerant) leak?

Yes. Common signs of a leak are weak cooling, ice forming on the pipes, or a hissing sound. We locate the leak with electronic and pressure-test diagnostics, show you exactly where it is, then seal the system and recharge it with the correct refrigerant. You get a clear quote for the repair before we start.

Do you install and service VRF / VRV systems?

Yes — Imia designs, installs and services them. A VRF/VRV (Variable Refrigerant Flow) system uses one outdoor unit to run several indoor units, so each room or zone is controlled independently — ideal for offices, guesthouses and larger homes in Batumi. We design, install, commission and service these multi-zone systems from 650 GEL, and we work with the main brands. Tell us how many rooms you need to cover and we'll advise on the right setup.

Is there a warranty on your work?

Yes — every installation carries a 12-month workmanship warranty covering our work: pipe joints, brackets and electrical connections. If anything related to the installation goes wrong within that period, one phone call is all it takes — we come back and put it right. We are a licensed and insured technician, so your property is protected during the job too.

Which areas of Batumi and Adjara do you cover?

Imia covers every Batumi district — the Old Town, New Boulevard, Bagrationi, Khimshiashvili, the Tamar district, and the port and airport areas — plus the whole of Adjara. On the coast: Khelvachauri, Makhinjauri, Gonio, Kvariati, Sarpi, Chakvi, Green Cape, Tsikhisdziri, Kobuleti, Ochkhamuri, Bobokvati, Ureki and Shekvetili, along with the Khelvachauri valley villages such as Erge, Makho, Akhalsheni and Adlia. Inland: Keda (Dandalo, Merisi, Tskhmorisi), Shuakhevi (Chvana, Didachara, Zamleti) and Khulo (Ghorjomi, Skhalta, Beshumi). Prices for the work are identical everywhere — nothing is added for the distance; inland visits are simply scheduled a few days ahead rather than same-day. Each of the main towns has its own page under Service Area, and same-week appointments are usually available.

My air conditioner isn't cooling — what could be wrong?

The most common causes are low refrigerant from a slow leak, a dirty filter or coil blocking airflow, or an electrical or sensor fault. We diagnose the exact cause on site, explain it in plain terms, and quote the repair before doing the work. In many cases it is a same-day fix.

How long does a standard AC installation take?

Most single split-system installations are completed in a few hours on the same visit. If new pipe routing or drainage preparation is needed, it can take a little longer. We agree the timing with you in advance and always leave the space clean and tidy.

Which air conditioner brands do you install and service?

Imia works with every brand sold in Georgia — Daikin, Mitsubishi, Gree, Midea, Haier, TCL, Samsung and the rest — across wall-mounted split, multi-split, cassette, ceiling-floor, column, ducted and VRF/VRV systems. We do not sell units: you buy whichever brand you prefer and we install or repair it.

What size (BTU) air conditioner do I need for my room?

As a guide for Batumi rooms:

  • 7,000 BTU — up to 20 m²
  • 9,000 BTU — 25–30 m²
  • 12,000 BTU — 35–40 m²
  • 18,000 BTU — 50–60 m²
  • 24,000 BTU — 70–80 m²

Add capacity for a top floor, big south-facing windows or an open-plan kitchen. Send Imia the room size and we will size it before you buy.

Does an air conditioner work for heating in winter?

Yes. Almost every unit sold in Batumi is a heat pump, and in our mild coastal winter it typically delivers 3–4 kW of heat for every 1 kW of electricity — the cheapest electric heating available here. Below about +5 °C output falls and defrost cycles start. Have the coil cleaned and the refrigerant charge checked before the heating season.

Why is my air conditioner dripping water indoors?

Almost always the condensate drain: a blocked drain line, a dirty drain pan, a drain run without enough fall from the original installation, or a coil that is freezing and thawing. It is plain condensate, not refrigerant — but it soaks plaster and feeds mould, so it is worth fixing. Imia runs a water-leak check in Batumi from 50 GEL.

Why does my air conditioner smell bad?

That damp, sour smell is biofilm — mould and bacteria — growing on the wet blower drum, heat exchanger and drain pan, which Batumi humidity makes very common. Rinsing the filters will not shift it and sprays only mask it. A deep clean of the drum and drain pan removes the source: Imia cleans wall units for 130–150 GEL.

How much electricity does an air conditioner use, and how do I cut the bill?

Set 24 °C rather than 18 °C, buy an inverter unit, rinse the filters monthly and have the system deep-cleaned once a year, shade sunlit glass and size the unit correctly. A dirty, undersized or slightly undercharged system can easily use 30–50% more power than it needs to — which is why an annual clean pays for itself over a Batumi summer.

Which refrigerants do you work with — R22, R410A or R32?

All three. Units older than roughly 2012 usually run R22 (being phased out), most sold in Georgia since then use R410A, and current models use R32. They cannot be mixed or substituted — the type is printed on the outdoor unit rating plate. Imia charges refrigerant at 15 GEL per 100 grams, and always looks for the leak first.

Do you offer emergency or same-day repair?

Imia works Monday to Friday 09:00–19:00 and Saturday 10:00–16:00, and takes emergencies on Sunday. In central Batumi and Makhinjauri same-day is often possible; further along the coast it is usually the same week. Call with the model number and the symptom and you will get the earliest realistic slot, not a vague promise.

Do you work with hotels, guesthouses and short-let apartments?

Yes — that is a large part of the work along this coast. Imia handles pre-season servicing for whole properties, commercial cassette, ducted, column and VRF installation, and mid-season faults that have to be fixed before a guest notices. Multiple units booked as one visit are quoted together and work out cheaper per unit than separate call-outs.

Do I need to buy the air conditioner myself?

Yes — Imia installs, but does not sell units, and every quoted price covers the work only. That keeps it transparent: you choose the brand, model and price freely, and pay 140–250 GEL for a standard wall installation depending on capacity. Tell us the room size first and we will tell you exactly what capacity and type to look for.
